British metal trio Absolva have been confirmed for Bloodstock Open Air 2013. They play the Sophie Lancaster Stage on Friday, 9th August at11.50am, before travelling to Belgium to play Summerrock on the Saturday. The band also reveal the artwork for the forthcoming “Beyond Live” CD and DVD releases.
This will be Absolva’s 2nd Bloodstock appearance, having played the Jagermeister stage last year soon after the band was formed and adjacent to 3 very successful Irish and Scottish dates as special guests with American powerhouse Iced Earth.
Absolva was born in May 2012, in the wake of Fury UK bassist Luke Appleton joining Iced Earth, and from inception the new band earned a reputation as an inspiring live act. Following the 2012 Bloodstock and Iced Earth shows, the band released debut album “Flames Of Justice” in November to critical acclaim and set about a rigorous touring schedule with a 16 date European Tour towards the end of the year, followed by a further 33 date European Tour early in 2013. The later tour included 8 shows as special guests on the Michael Schenker Temple of Rock and Lovedrive Reunion Tour. Absolva’s impact on the British and European scene has therefore been immediate.
The plaudits include Metal Hammer’s Dom Lawson “Top notch British metal with brains, balls and big tunes” and Steve Swift of Powerplay “time in Europe has given them a muscularity, a groove – they are a tough unit.. they shone like highly polished metal”

The live DVD and CD entitled “Beyond Live” were recorded at a sell-out headline show at Wizzfest in Belgium, in March this year and will be available with a deluxe pre-order fanpack option – more details soon. The planned release date is 30th September. An extensive touring schedule is again booked for August-November to promote the new release, following which the band immediately enters the studio to record a second studio album for release in 2014.
The latest artwork is by Mike Collins of Lungfull Design and is a steam-punk take on the original “Flames Of Justice” coverart he worked on for the band’s debut.
