Hull, UK
Metal / Classic Rock, Hard Rock / NWOBHM

Hi AllFollowing our recent gigs in the Netherlands and Germany, last Friday we played our hometown Hull. This gig – with old mates Soulflame – was also the launch of the new Fairview compilation album “A Perfect Combination: 1973-90”.  See the article in the Hull Daily Mail:

Salem made our first two recordings at the Fairview Studios in Willerby, Hull – the first demo in 1981 and the Reach To Eternity/Cold As Steel single in ’82.

Many excellent artists recorded at Fairview Studios, not least Hull’s own legendary guitarist Mick Ronson and Trevor Bolder, and other rock and metal bands such as:

  • Uriah Heep
  • Def Leppard
  • Witchfynde
  • Gaskin
  • Tokyo Blade
  • Geddes Axe
  • Saracen
  • etc

Local music historian, Andy Richardson, has already worked with the owner Keith Herd to release a collection of music recorded by local artists from the 1960s and early ’70s called Frontroom Masters.

We are delighted that Andy approached us to include some our music on this compilation.

You can read more about Fairview on – and on Wikipedia where the Salem single is cited as a “notable recording”!

“Truly awesome show! [Fruit, Hull – 15 Nov 2013 ]”  Paul Hurst, Facebook

“The new album from the NWoBHM-Kult Metal veterans SALEM “Forgotten Dreams” for sure will be one of the best if not even Number one of all english albums being released in this year. The first class production gives the right base for the absolutely fresh songs you might not expect from such “old guys”. Of course the vocals are still totally convincing, so also this important thing for any bans gives no point to criticize. Many bands from the glorious early 80s times don’t keep their high class with their later albums. SALEM do and they set new peaks. Please expect melodic Post-NWo British Heavy Metal in champion’s league quality which will pleasure every Hard Rock, Metal or whatever fan from great hand made music. Every song is a killer! The release date of the SALEM album “Forgotten Dreams” is December 6th, 2013. The preorder phase will start on November 22nd, 2013 in our webshop.”  Press Release, Pure Rock Records

“…. The opening riffs of the title track ‘Forgotten Dreams’ is laden with all that is ‘proper’ heavy metal. Power chords, soaring solos, thundering drums and pulsating bass lines all add to the mix of anthemic choruses and harmonies that are so definitely NWoBHM. … … This is an album that has all the qualities of being a classic … … exciting guitar driven Heavy Metal we all love and continue to listen to … …. and this album suggests they here to stay and long may they continue.”  Paul Hurst,ReverbNation
